Kono District Council chops Le 1 Billion
An audit report on the financial conducts of the Kono District Council has uncovered that the Council Chairman, Diana Konomanyi has allegedly misappropriated a sum totaling 1 billion Leones obtained from the devolution fund basket.
Sources from within Kono District Council revealed last week that Diana had dodged a council meeting conveyed to look into the submitted audit report, get her response and possibly pass a vote of no confidence on her.
Since Diana’s taking over of office as Chairman Kono District Council, replacing John Yambasu, who now acts as Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to the Soviet Union (Russia), her relationship with councilors has been very much unfavourable.
In our previous publication it was stated that Diana Konomanyi ought to be investigated because of her involvement in the Kono shootout during the visit of the Minister of Internal Affairs, Musa Tarawally.
It is clear though that Madam Diana Konomanyi is likely to face the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) on account of financial mismanagement reportedly and currently happening from within ranks of Kono District Council.
The Council is reportedly in a complete divide. Out of about 25 Councilors in the Kono District Council, only 8 councilors are in the good books of Chairman Diana.
It is a fact that management of the ACC recently paid an unannounced visit to Kono District Council to determine the quality of work done with funds allocated to the Council; money respectfully withdrawn from the consolidated fund.
That on arrival of the team of ACC officials, they approached Diana Konomanyi and demanded that she allow them access to official records of performance of Kono Council employees including her- the Chairman.
A source has told this press that Diana was taken aback by the visit of some ACC officials, and therefore had no option, but cleverly told them she has been asked by President Koroma to immediately travel to Freetown. Her excuse, we are told, was later proved to be false by the visiting ACC team.
It is reported that the Kono District Council is in shambles. Funds provided by government for rural development projects are allegedly embezzled by persons working at the council.
It is also revealed that Diana Konomanyei is in association with the Chief Administrator, Mr. Tamba Allieu, whose habits of frequenting the former’s house to have private meetings with her is, but practically no secret to people of Kono.
Reflection must be drawn to a publication by this press in which it was stated that Diana Konomanyi must be investigated following the recent Kono shootout.
