On SLRTC smoking buses

Recently, I was at the bus park in Bo trying to travel to Freetown on board one of the aged buses of the Sierra Leone Road Transport Corporation (SLRTC).

As we were scrambling in the long ticket queue trying to buy tickets, the driver started the bus engine which emitted a huge cloud of thick black smoke that repelled all of us. The smoke suffocated almost all of us.

This was a crystal clear sign that the bus was slowly becoming non-roadworthy and if not carbonized now, it will become useless to Sierra Leoneans.

And that bus is not the only SLRTC bus that emits such smoke thereby polluting our environment, many of them discharge clouds of smoke while struggling on the highways.

Woe betide you to be near the driver when he engages the gear, you will almost become deafened by the cacophony.

Surely, the SLRTC buses are wearing out, in fact, many have worn out. Just go to the bus depot at the PWD junction and you will see the scraps there.

No need to tell government that the SLRTC needs brand new buses as the Tata buses have become too old for the comfort of Sierra Leoneans.
