For polluting their dam, residents vow to storm Chinese company

Residents of Hamilton Village in the Western Rural District have raised concern over the pollution of their dam by dust generated from the quarry operated by the China Railway Seventh Group contracted by the Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA).

Residents raised their concern during an exclusive interview with this reporter who visited the village over the weekend.

Speaking on behalf of his people, the Headman of Hamilton Village, Morlai Conteh told this reporter that residents of the village have been tormenting him with persistent complaints that the quarry dust has been polluting the dam from which they get water to drink and that the ongoing road construction work has disfigured the topography of the village, making the place dangerous to walk at night especially when the village is plagued by constant blackout.

The headman noted that even though they have forwarded their grievances to the SLRA Project Coordinator, Madam Jalloh, no action has been taken.

Morlai Conteh also blamed the Lands Ministry for selling lands in the village without his knowledge and consent, an allegation to which the ministry is yet to respond.
