National Ebola Task Force re-engage partners on way forward to contain the Ebola outbreak
Freetown, Aug. 28, 014 (MOHS) – The National Ebola Task Force resumed its meeting after a short break and re-registered continued commitment in the fight against the Ebola virus disease in the country.
Addressing partners in the conference hall of the Ministry of Health and Sanitation at Youyi Building in Freetown, the Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Brima Kargbo noted the efforts and contributions of the partners since the outbreak of the disease and encouraged them to redouble efforts in chatting the way forward to contain the disease. He told his audience that the destiny of the control of the virus is currently in their hands and the rest of the population, and expressed gratitude to the partners that stayed behind to support the Ministry and the government and people of Sierra Leone.
Dr. Kargbo thanked the Red Cross and Medicines San Frontiers (MSF) for their support in the establishment of New Treatment Centre, adding that work is also in progress for the establishment of a treatment centre at Kerry Town in the Western Rural Area, and an assessment tour for the erection of another treatment centre at Gbomsamba in the Bombali district.
The Director of Disease Prevention and Control, Dr. Amara Jambai disclosed that in spite of the challenges faced, more partners are coming in to strengthen partnership including the Centre for Disease Control (CDC) noting that the country needs more support than ever as the magnitude of the outbreak of the disease has never been anticipated to the current trend.
Dr. Jambai said nevertheless, there are successes in various areas, and very optimistic of breaking the chain of the destruction.
He called on partners to strengthen the District Health Management Teams at community level to monitor and supervise contact tracers, track people infected as well as to train and equip more contact tracers on the concept of restricting movement.
Dr. Jambai in his update dilated on active case research, contact tracing in the Western Area, livelihood of household’s support, mobility constrains and other logistics support among other key issues including support to the burial teams.
Other speakers include former Director of the Directorate of Planning and Information in the Health Ministry, Dr. Clifford Kamara, the Director of Drugs and Medical Supplies, Mr. Bassie Turay and the Directors of Health For All Coalition and Health Alert, Charles Mambu and Victor Lansana Koroma.
