How the South Club misused senior actor

As misuse of artists and film actors has become the order of the day in the country’s entertainment industry, a senior actor Mr. Abubakarr Mansaray aka Abu Gbotto has bitterly complained to this medium of how he was misused by members of the dirty South Club based at Patton Street in the Eastern part of Freetown.

The Salone super star revealed he decided to explain his ordeals to this press as a result of provocation he is receiving from members of the said organization after attending their Dwarf contest on December 6th last year at Starco Cinema which saw hundreds of his fans paying their money in rush to witness his side attraction performance and he was given a scanty amount of Le 5,000 as compensation fee at the end of the day.

“On the fateful day, I was coming from my Director’s house Yayah Saw Kamara based in Montague Street in Freetown for rehearsals at SLMB Old Field Street where I was called upon by the President of the association who invited me to take part in the competition mentioned above and he took a snapshot from me and pasted my picture on a banner among other competitors as a means of advertising their show for over a month with the prospect that they will give me a sealed envelope that will contain money, but amazingly I only received a meager amount of Le5,000 for the whole night which I used to explore my natural talent to entertain their guests. I was also fought by members as hopeless society for grumbling that the money given was not even enough to take Okada transport to my house,” Abu Gbotto told SEM in tears.

The most disheartening part of the story according to the actor is that when they see him walking in the Street of Freetown they called him Abu of Dirty South in which he is not a member. He cried and swears the organization to be dumped in the dust bin.

According to the super star, he has been featured in various plays by senior actors and artists in the country including the first concert staged at Liberty Hall which was directed by his first Director to put him on stage Yayah Sawsaw Kamara titled “Fish and Salad Woman who get the man”. After that performance Abu Gbotto said they formed a theatre group named Hollywood Players in 2003 where his idea as an actor was shaped. He further explained that as he had become famous in the industry, his popularity attracted one of the country’s Themne legends Mr. Buberry and featured him in his track album video clip ‘Korbukor’ which had topped the Salone musical chart for many months.

The film star stressed that, that particular album of Buberry sold him to the public as an influential actor and many groups started going in search of him for featuring including Mercy movie in their two debuted films titled “Ginna” in which he took the role of a gateman and Jeneba wherein he served as one of the villagers adding that he was also featured in “Love in Dilemma” where he was also put to dilemma as nothing was given to him in the end of the launching.

At this moment he said his elder sister Aunty Abie Kabia had to travel from America to Sierra Leone and said she has been watching most of his movies in America but she did not see improvement on him physically.
