Press Release – Ministries of Finance and Health Sierra Leone

THE MINISTRY OF FINANCE AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN COLLABORATION WITH THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH AND SANITATION WISHES TO INFORM THE GENERAL PUBLIC THAT GOVERNMENT HAS TODAY, 15TH SEPTEMBER 2014, RELEASED TWO WEEKS INCENTIVE PAYMENTS TO THE FOLLOWING DHMTS/HOSPITALS THAT HAVE SUBMITTED BENEFICIARY STAFF LIST: PUJEHUN, KAILAHUN, KONO, KAMBIA, WESTERN AREA (RURAL AND URBAN), KENEMA, KOINADUGU, PORT LOKO, TONKOLILI, BO, EMERGENCY HOSPITAL GODERICH, AND CONNAUGHT HOSPITAL.

THESE PAYMENTS ARE IN FULFILMENT OF THE ANNOUNCEMENT ISSUED BY GOVERNMENT FOR INCENTIVE PAYMENT TO ALL HEALTH WORKERS AND VOLUNTEERS, EFFECTIVE SEPTEMBER 2014. WHILST AWAITING WORLD BANK FUNDS TO BECOME EFFECTIVE, GOVERNMENT HAS TRANSFERRED LE6,000,000,000 (SIX BILLION LEONES) TO THE EBOLA RESPONSE ACCOUNT WITH THE SIERRA LEONE COMMERCIAL BANK, AS PART OF ITS CONTRIBUTION TO THE SCHEME, TO MEET INCENTIVE PAYMENTS FOR THE FIRST TWO WEEKS OF SEPTEMBER 2014.

THE GENERAL PUBLIC IS ALSO INFORMED THAT SINCE GOVERNMENT TRANSFERRED FUNDS TO THE EMERGENCY RESPONSE ACCOUNT FOR PAYMENT OF FIRST WEEK SEPTEMBER INCENTIVES, THESE PAYMENTS COULD NOT BE TRANSFERRED TO BENEFICIARY INSTITUTIONS AND HEALTH WORKERS BECAUSE OF CHALLENGES BY DHMTS AND HOSPITALS TO SUBMIT THEIR STAFF LIST.

TO FACILITATE PAYMENT TO THE REMAINING DISTRICTS AND HOSPITALS, HEADS OF INSTITUTIONS ARE URGENTLY REQUIRED TO SUBMIT THEIR STAFF LIST WHICH IS A PRE-CONDITION FOR TRANSFER OF THESE. THE DISTRICT EOCs ARE ENCOURAGED TO FOLLOW UP WITH DHMTS AND HOSPITAL MANAGEMENT FOR SUBMISSION OF THE REQUIRED INFORMATION.

MATILDA WILLIAMS
SENIOR DEPUTY FINANCIAL SECRETARY
