VP Sam-Sumana provides food and PPEs to Kono DERC

Presenting the items in the presence of paramount chiefs of Kono, the Vice President said the donation was a continuation of his contribution to the people of Kono in the fight to end the Ebola scourge in the country.

Ebola, he said, came at a time when the country was moving up the leather to attain a middle income status through the relentless effort of His Excellency, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma and his able team and at a time when the government and its people least expected it.

He added that the virus has devastated the country’s economy and stalled it development. Ebola, he went on, is the world’s most deadly disease which has shattered the lives of innocent peace loving Sierra Leonean including outstanding doctors and nurses.

He called on his Kono people to fasten their belt in the fight to eradicate the virus in the district and the country as a whole. While asking them to respect the bye-laws set up by their various traditional leaders, he urged them to refrain from the routine of washing dead bodies and report early cases of signs and symptoms of Ebola. Stop attending funeral services and practice frequent hand washing, he told them.

He called on paramount chiefs to implement the bye-laws to it fullest on defaulters in order to complement the President’s goal in his social mobilization drive nationwide for a nation freed from the world’s most treacherous enemy, Ebola.

The DERC Coordinator, Paul N. Saquee thanked the Hon. Vice President for such a laudable venture, adding that the items will be utilized for it intended purpose.
