To enhance road safety SLRSA bestows SLRA

The Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) on Thursday 23rd April, 2015 donated 100 road signs to the Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA) to be erected in the Central Business District (CBD) to control the movement of commercial motorbikes plying the city as well as to enhance road safety.  (Photo: l-r SLRA Director General, Abdul Azizi Kamara, SLRSA Executive Director, Dr. Sarah Finda Bendu)

SLRSA Public Relations Officer, Abdul Karim Dumbuya revealed that the implementation of the Code of Conduct for Commercial Motorbike Riders should have been effected since February, 2015 but that due to the inability of SLRA to erect the road signs, one of its responsibilities, it was postponed to now.

Abdul Karim Dumbuya further revealed that the donation is in line with the newly-approved Code of Conduct for Commercial Motorbike Riders as the road signs would restrict the movement of commercial bikes in the CBD.

He said that the erection of road signs would facilitate enforcement of the Code by the Sierra Leone Police and Traffic Wardens that would soon commence to augment the road safety drive.

The SLRSA generates 85% of its funds through licenses, tickets issued to drivers and other fines which are used for road maintenance and erection of road furniture.
