Okada rider saves colleague from murder

Koya, Aug. 1 (SLENA) – The circumstance that surrounds the eventual rescue of a commercial motor bike rider otherwise known as an Okada man from instant death can be better referred to as a ‘miraculous miracle’. There would have been no other way through which Mamadu Barrie the ‘Orkada Man’ could have survived from the cruel hands of his Pelion Rider. He was already helpless and bleeding profusely from the stab wounds that have been inflected on him. This is an incident that occurred in broad daylight, precisely at about 11 AM on Sunday 19th of July 2015, along the Songo / Mabang Highway.

What seemingly started as a kidnap plot by 23- year old Musa Jalloh, resident of 57 Kissy Brook in Freetown, ended up in the rescue of an okada bike ride, Mamadu Barrie, from possible death.

According to report reaching the Sierra Leone News Agency, Musa Jalloh, now suspect in the matter, had hired the services of Mamadu Barrie to take him on his motor bike somewhere in Waterloo. Musa Jalloh posed as a businessman who was going to conduct some transactions. They bargained for seventy thousand Leones (Le70,000.) for the trip and left.

Our sources say the two had passed Waterloo and were continuing when bike rider objected that they had gone beyond the point they had agreed upon. But he was persuaded by Musa to proceed further and that they were now getting close to their destination.

They had already gone an additional distance and were at a jungle betw much further. Musa was quick in noticing that there was no way he could persuade Mamadu to continue the trip. So Musa asked Mamadu to stop as if he wanted to ease himself. But he immediately changed to an aggressor and at once grabbed okada rider, dragged him off the bike into the Bush, where it is said, he took out a knife and started stabbing okada man.

Unfortunately for the aggressor and luckily for the victim, the bike was abandoned were it fell on the middle of the road. Sources say Mamadu has already been overpowered with stab wounds on both lips and was almost making his final cry for help when another okada rider pulled along and went to his aid. It did not take him long when he heard the shouting for help from his fellow okada man. He dashed to that direction and as soon as Musa noticed him advancing towards them, he fled further deep into the bush.

But Musa could not actually succeed in his flight as the villagers mobilized themselves in search of him. He was caught and turned in to the police while Mamadu was rushed to the Waterloo Heath Centre for a first aid treatment. He has since been transferred to the Masiaka Health Centre where he is said to be responding to treatment.

Detective Sergeant 6486 Issa Conteh is one of the investigations officers in the matter. He said the police are investigating a case of robbery with aggravation. The officer said the suspected admitted to have stabbed Mamadu with a knife in self defence.

Meanwhile, the Local Unit Commander at Masiaka Police Station, Superintendent Gloria Macaulay has expressed doubt as to the actual purpose of the alleged action of Musa. She doubted whether it was the motor bike that Musa really wanted. She opined that Musa would have simply dropped Mamadu and snatched the motor bike away.

The prevailing speculation here is that Musa was up for a ritual murder. Musa told SLENA in an interview that he hails from Bo and has been in Freetown for the past three years as a dealer in building materials.
