Parliament Opens & Book of Condolence for Late Hon. Augustine B. Torto

Freetown, Oct. 14 (SLENA) – The Parliament of Sierra Leone has on Wednesday 14th October 2015, opened and signed a Book of Condolence at the State Hall of Parliament in respect of the late Hon. Augustine Bockarie Torto, which sad event occurred in Freetown on Friday 9th October 2015.

The Senior Public Relations Officer of Parliament, Sheku Lamin Turay, on the declaration of purpose said that the late Member of Parliament was representing Constituency 025 in Kono District. He was also Chairman for the Parliamentary Oversight Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and a member of other Committees in the House.

Mr. Turay also noted that the late man was a “good debater who served both the SLPP and the APC parties from the majority benches in the House of Parliament” and added that “his foot prints will be sadly missed in the corridors of Parliament”.

The Leadership, Member of Parliament and Diplomats were at the ceremony.

Rev. Bishop Thomas Aiah Gbandawa of the Church of Salvation prayed for the late Hon. Augustine Torto and later blessed the Book of Condolence before it was signed by distinguished mourners present at the State Hall of Parliament. A short lesson from the Bible was read by Hon. Rtd. Captain Frederick S. Sourie.

The ceremony was attended by the Vice President of Sierra Leone, Hon. Victor Bockarie Foh, the Mayor of Freetown Municipality, Ministers of Government, Diplomats, family members and other distinguished mourners.

H.E President Ernest Bai Koroma had already signed the Book of Condolence.

The late Hon. Augustine Torto will be finally laid to rest on Thursday 15th October 2015 at Ascension Town cemetery in Freetown.

May his soul rest in perfect peace.
