US$30M for Youth Village Project

The Minister of Youth Affairs, Hon. Alimamy A. Kamara, has expressed optimism that the proposed Youth Village at Foronoya in Koinadugu District will be the country’s flagship programme in future.

The Youth Village which garnered the blessings of the traditional leaders, according to the ambitious Minister, has already attracted a whopping US$30 million (Thirty million United States Dollars) with some major administrative work expected to commence in two weeks’ times.

Several projects that seek to change the lives of young Sierra Leoneans have been packaged for the Youth Village. It has therefore become prudent for the Youth Ministry to direct the project to a more conducive environment.

Foronoya village is an agriculturally viable area and the hospitable people are growers of vegetables, sweat potatoes, Chinese yams and orange among other agricultural products they cultivate.

One of the farmers, Ansumana Daboh, told our reporter that the project would bring enormous benefit to the village that will aid the alleviation the poverty since the village serves as a major link to other towns and villages in Koinadugu District.

He stressed that they have been longing for such development for far too long and expressed hope that the project will commence in the coming months.

Speaking to Paramount Chiefs in the district headquarters of Kabala, the Youth Minister called on the youth to move away from their comfort zones and step up efforts to contribute to national development, noting that the district is notable for having a powerful mixture of development-oriented people of different backgrounds.

Hon. Alimamy Kamara stressed that President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma is committed to touching the lives of young people who should not condemn themselves but to rise to the occasion and alleviate poverty.

He stressed that the President “has Kabala closely to his heart after reconstructing roads and providing solar street lights. He has also moved the Youth Village to you.”

The Youth Minister encouraged young people to rise to the occasion as the National Youth Farm at Masalia and Masiaka remains an eye-opener with over 200 young people engaged in agricultural activities.
