Sierra Leone Parliament cautions Freetown City Council

The Parliamentary Oversight Committee on Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) Chairman Hon. Abu Bakarr Koroma commonly called Hon. According to their powers and mandates within the relevant section of the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone.

Clerk of Committee Mr. AlhajiY ansaneh said Section 93 Sub-Section (111) and ( 112) as well as (116) mandated Members of Parliament (MP’s) to investigate, enquire on monies received for and on behalf of the people if they are deliciously utilized for it intended purpose as he also administer the Oath for affirmation .

In his opening remarks Chairman Hon. Abu Bakarr S. A. T. Koroma noted that they decided to summoned the Freetown City Council FCC as part of their ongoing mandates with effort to reforming and implementing its oversight function and activities as Members of Parliament (MP’s) to monitor, supervise all council progress of national development including government supported projects, owned source revenue, grants as well as other source.

Hon. S.A.T. further requested to furnish with the Committee with additional supporting documents in order for MP’s to be more efficiently and effectively do their work including bank statement as well as bank balance of account, supporting documents of certificate of awarding contract, rehabilitation, percentage of job completion statement of account from both home source revenue generation, agreement between contractors, monies received for 2014, 2015 and 2016 from Road Maintenance Fund (RMF) DSDP, and amongst others.

He further requested to be provided with the Committee development of long and short term report of progress plan of action for the past years adding that as Committee will also focuses on key element in order to ascertain their investigation of annual financial status report as well as evaluation report.

Hon. Alhassan Kamara of Constituency 096 in Calaba Town Allen Town in the east end of Freetown, Hon. Dickson M. Rogers of Constituency 089 in Pujehun District and several others subsequently applauded the Freetown City Council Chief Administrator (C.A.) Abu Bakarr Daramy for a job well done as over the years he had been doing a symbolic job but expressed lapses now day with less efforts particularly the C.A. had not been able to provide a comprehensive break down of progress report to substantiate but embezzlement scam from his council.

Hon. Ibrahim Kamara AKA Hon. Prozo of Constituency 105 in the Western Urban Area who also taken the discussion challenge after the Chairman Hon. S.A.T.
