Inspector General of Police Brima Acha Kamara is currently having sleepless nights after the nation’s Parliament unilaterally demanded that President Ernest Koroma must kick him out of office because of what was claimed as his inefficiency and lack of commitment in protecting lives and property as the country’s leading sheriff.
Honorable Mathew Nyamah of the Sierra Leone People’s Party from Kenema district started the attack on the police boss in his response during the debate, by calling on fellow Members of Parliament to support him in ensuring that Mr. Acha Kamara is sacked.
Hon. Nyamah made this statement in a Parliamentary debate which started on the 19th October 2009, in the House.
“The IG should be immediately sacked because he has failed the entire nation by allowing the government to add another security sector to his force for good, as Mr. Kamara cannot secure this country with the military, then what are they paying the police for,” the MP queried vehemently.
He also condemned what he termed as tribalism, regionalism and sectionalism in the government and said what is presently operating in Sierra Leone is that the national cake has become a northern cake, as no other region is benefiting from it.
Chairman of the debate, Doctor Sesay, said that it is traditional in parliament to look into the president’s speech and bring out the fault of the government.
The chairman highlighted some aspects of improvement since the APC took over power, and said that in the agriculture sector, the entire would has named Sierra Leone ‘champion of agriculture’
“The government has provided 265 tractors in the agriculture sector in the entire country,” the chairman said, and went on further to inform the House that in teams of health, the country has entered into an agreement with the Federal Republic of Nigeria, to provide medical doctors, whom, he said, are now working in Sierra Leone with the collaboration of Sierra Leonean doctors.
Meanwhile President Koroma has, however, not shown any plan in moving Acha Kamara from the office of the Inspector general of Police. State Houses reveal the police boss is still considered highly by the head of State. “If the president asks me to go I will go, but I am here to do my job,” Mr. Acha is quoted to have stated.
