Ambassador Bangali woos Africa’s richest man to Sierra Leone Trade & Investment Forum thumbnail

Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union, His Excellency Ambassador Andrew Bangali on Thursday 29th October, 2009 extended a passionate and warm invitation to all Ethiopian businessmen, business outfits and diplomatic missions based in Addis Ababa including Africa’s richest business magnate Mr. Sheikh Mohammed H. Invitations were also extended to the Republic of Sierra Leone Consulates in Israel, Uganda and Kenya in a bid to invite multinational firms in those countries to attend the TIF. Aga Khan Foundation, an Indian business consortium based in Kenya, which operates a chain of businesses in East and Southern Africa is also invited to attend the forum.    

The two-day conference will take place at the Queen Elizabeth II Center in London.

After his appointment as envoy to Ethiopia by His Excellency President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, Ambassador Bangali had as his key priority to organize a face-to-face business meeting between President Koroma and the Ethiopian born Sheikh Al-Amoudi.

The confab is organized by the Government of the Republic of Sierra Leone with strong support from the United Kingdom Government through the British Department for International Development (DfID), the World Bank Group, the European Union and a host of other development partners.

The Conference, which will commence with the Sierra Leone TIF is designed to be a high profile communication platform aimed at highlighting President Koroma’s Agenda for Change and the emphasis on private Sector Led Growth; send a clear signal that Sierra Leone is Politically Stable, secure and progressing well on the path to recovery and working hard to attract serious investments; emphasize Sierra Leone’s efforts to become a more attractive investment destination; showcase some investment opportunities and success stories and generate investors’ interest and investment deal flow.

Erstwhile British Prime Minster Rt. Hon. Tony Blair will deliver a live Endorsement at the Investment Forum while renowned global financier, philanthropist, Founder and Chairman of Open Society Institute, George Soros will also deliver a video Endorsement.

The welcome address will be delivered by His Excellency, President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma.

The President will present the Government of Sierra Leone’s new Agenda for Change (the second Poverty Reduction Strategy for Sierra Leone) including progress made on developing the key sectors of Agriculture, Transport, Energy and Human Development, as well as outlining the advances made in Governance, Gender Equality issues and Peace-building.
