The first phase of the Mafanta Prison at Mafanta in the Tonkolili District which is under a construction and rehabilitation programme with funding from the Justice Sector Development has been completed and handed over to the Prison Department.

For the handing over-ceremony, Procurement Manager, Assistant Director Mr. Dennis K. Harman and Mohamed Opito Jimmy Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Prisons Department went over to Magboroka in the Tonkolili to grace the process.

According to Dennis K. Harman, the reconstruction and rehabilitation of Mafanta Prison is a move in the right direction undertaken by the Government of Sierra Leone and the JSDP saying “the facility was built with all needed amenities including toilets, hand lift pump and perimeter fence to ensure that the welfare of the inmates are duly protected at the same time ensuring security procedures are observed.
