Imitating Emmerson is schizophrenia

Imitating Emmerson is schizophrenia thumbnail

Author: SEM Contributor

When things happen in this country especially in this of our APC times, I sit in the small corner of my room and seriously laugh about it as if I am a schizophrenic person like some APC politicians. When I heard the outrage of APC politicians on the recent album of Emmerson, “Yesterday Betteh Pass Tiday”, I concluded that indeed the APC is not a team of politicians that will accept genuine and patriotic criticism It is so quick for these politicians to react on the music that one starts to admire the endurance of former President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah and his SLPP team. It is said that when these same Emmerson was singing songs against the government and even President Kabbah, President Kabbah advised that the young men should be given the free hand to sing so as to avoid them going to the bush. To me, that is patriotism to the extreme.

There are several ways to evaluate oneself in politics and one of the commonest is by ‘criticism’. Criticism; whether it is positive or negative, has a vital signal that is supposed to be used by the person being criticized. It creates the way for one to be able to know where the lapses are being concealed from ones own sight. Critics are not supposed to be enemies; they are instead supposed to be partners in developing the country. It is not so with this present government. This government is always putting very thick resistance to criticism even when they know that the particular issue they are being criticized for is genuine and accurate.

I remember when Irene Khan of the Amnesty International came to Sierra Leone to garner support from Sierra Leoneans so as to influence the United Nations to allocate more money to the country for maternal mortality, this government felt offended and went haywire. Some of the Ministers were in fact in New York at that time and hurriedly called the BBC to challenge the woman’s statement. When I heard the Minister talking on the radio, I dipped my head in my hands in shame for my darling country, Sierra Leone. I spoke to the radio, ‘schizophrenically’ though, ‘for goodness sake Mr. Minister, can’t you understand that Irene is trying to help your government and country to get money?’ That day was one of the worst days for me. It was even worse than when I was stabbed by operatives of the APC. I felt so bad that I broke the antenna of my radio in vexation. Irene is not a Sierra Leonean and therefore has no interest in the politics of Sierra Leone. She felt attracted to Sierra Leone and thought she can help in influencing the international community to dish out some money to the country.  That was squashed with frustrated vexation from government Ministers (influential ones too!). I am only happy that Irene and her colleagues sustained the pain and went ahead with their campaign. That was a classical example of the ineptitude of some officials of this particular APC government. It is the same way Emmerson has been attacked on the issue of his recent album.

This young man wants to prove himself to the people of Sierra Leone that no one politician influenced his songs during the SLPP rule and that he will continue to sing about the ills of the country no matter the person or group of persons holding the mantle of power. I think Emmerson said it before now that they (musicians) will ‘Wap’ when this government performs abysmally. That is exactly what he has started doing. He said it and he has started doing it. We as Sierra Leoneans should start taking a very close watch at this kind of young man. I am highly suspecting that he has some spiritual inspirations. I heard him saying on radio Democracy 98.1FM that he went to the Bumbuna Hydro-electricity dam and it is not working. That means Emmerson is also investigative in writing his songs. That must be a journalist style of doing his music. He is not a stark illiterate. Those that are coming from the offices of the Attitudinal Change and the APC headquarters outrageously opposing these songs of Emerson are pushing the corpse of the APC to the grave earlier than 2012. I am not saying the APC is dead at this time but I am quite sure it is in a very serious coma that may lead to its death like Michael Jackson. Some proper medical attention should be given to this APC government. As early as two years and people have started becoming disgruntled? I think some serious actions must take place.

Listening to Hon. Victor Foh on the radio made me think that there so many things to do for the APC government that the three years left in their mandate will not suffice. He is the Secretary General of the ruling party and will have to imitate Emmerson singing on the radio. That was an absolute schizophrenia. When one holds a senior citizen status in a country, that status must be maintained and be protected. But because Emmerson has sang a song on the status of the APC party’s two years performance, the Secretary General will turn himself a quack musician makes it bizarre. Victor Foh should know that what goes around comes around. During the SLPP rule there were more negative songs than the one Emmerson has just sang. I do not remember when one of the SLPP officials went on the radio to make his version of those songs that were specially designed to attack their government and their personalities. At that time Victor Foh was dancing to those tunes and did raise concern as he was a law maker by then. He had all the power to stop them singing. Victor Foh was a parliamentarian when songs like BORBOR BELLEH, EJECTMENT NOTICE  and so on, were released and did not show any concern. Why is it now that he has started shouting above his voice that Emmerson has done the wrong thing? This is a kind of question that is worth the attention of that person coming from the office of Attitudinal Cchange. I am not really sure if this person in the office of Attitudinal Change knows their target areas. There are so many things to pay attention to other than a single music from Emerson. No wonder proper systems are not in that office. The ABC hasn’t got anything to do and it is because they are bad politicians that they are falling in the classes of nonentities. These guys do not know what they are there for. There are no designed programmes in the ABC. The only thing these guys are doing is moving from one point to the other having lengthy empty talks. They have not come out with any kind of mission statement. The office itself is too much infested with politics that affecting its out put

Emmerson has got the vision of talking to the people of Sierra Leone through music and that what he is doing. No one (especially APC members) wants to accept this fact at this time. Some are saying it is quick for Emmerson to say that yesterday is better than today but that is utter rubbish. Who says there is a time line for one to evaluate his government he/she has voted for? In fact two years is too long for Emmerson to come out with this album or music. These kinds of evaluation should happen on a yearly basis if not monthly.
