Information unveiled by Sierra Express Media reveals that the life of Sierra Leone’s controversial political musician Emmerson Bockarie is under threat as certain individuals have planned to ‘silence’ him forever.
According to reports, some individuals, reported to be associated with the All People’s Congress Party’s Task Force group are looking into the plan of silencing the songster by any means, including assassination. Although the original APC Task Force was ordered disbanded, investigations reveal there is a group in the party using the nomenclature and are actually recognized by the party’s top echelon and have been allegedly ordered to carry out the sinister plot.
The decision to silence the musician is said to be linked to his recent album, ‘Yesterday Betteh Pas Tiday’ with songs attacking and criticizing the policies of the present government, and which has already become a hit in the country. “Emmerson has stepped on the toes of the SLPP government and went free but this time he has challenged the APC and for that he has become a target for some die hard supporters who are ready to show their allegiance to the powers that be,” said one source who asked not to be named.
Sources further reveal that members of the APC Task Force are presently working on the plan to take care of the musician, and various suggestions have been considered including beating and breaking his teeth to outright murder.
“The APC members are muttering among themselves that they will not allow the musician to go free as it was the same issue that caused the SLPP to lose power,” the source said.
A series of meetings comprising members of this Task Force and other APC stalwarts is said to have been convened in different locations, including Makeni where it was alleged a permanent watch out has been established for the musician. “If Emmerson appears in Makeni he will be a dead man,” said another musician who also asked not to be named.
Emmerson Bockarie is now said to be in constant alert and has even refused to come out in public places like popular night spots. “He is behaving like a marked man and he is not taking it a matter of joke as he knows he has enemies out there,” said a close confidant of the musician.
Plans are also underway to undertake a psychological warfare declared on the musician by constantly threatening him so that his life will be a total wreck.
Asked whether he is using Sierra Express Media to relay the warning message to the controversial singer, the informant who himself claims to be part of the group said “if this must serve as warning for him, so be it but the Task Force is not joking in anyway; we hope to stay in power for as much as we can and do not plan to loss the precious power we now have because someone else wants to make money and acquire cheap popularity,” he said.
Emmerson Bockarie’s recent hit song has sparked forth untold controversy both in political and media parlance probably because it has turned out to be the first anti-government and revolutionary song since the inception of President Koroma’s All People’s Government for almost two years now. The singer had earlier warned the government in hit single if Una Shake we go wap (meaning we will not hesitate to hit you if you fail) after its resounding victory in 2007.
Supporters of the government, including party stalwarts have condemned the singer’s new hit song as a money making venture and that the song is unnecessarily discrediting the government despite inroads since assuming power.
The alleged action of the Task Force members, according to information reaching Sierra Express Media is supported by highly placed members in the party. It has also been revealed that the plot to do away with the musician is a top secret endeavour known only to a select few.
“If Emmerson is out of the way, it will serve as warning to whoever may want to attempt to put the work of their government into disrepute and obvious unpopularity,” the APC source said.
APC members interviewed have however dismissed the allegation as the figment of the SLPP and that they have no plans to silence the musician.
A spokesman for the musician has refused to make a statement on the matter.

APC, If you accept the criticism (or just ignore it) and focus on your business in government, you will look stronger and gain the respect of many. If you waste your time on an individual singer, you will look weaker. You have more important things to think about. Consider former President Bush and President Obama in the USA. Many singers criticize these presidents, but they focus on running the government and helping their people, to their own credit.

It will not be helpful to the APC if the Singer is hurt or killed. The APC should not worry about singers, it has to go ahead and govern. Do the business of the people and for the people and let the singers sing.

Mr. Editor, your article about Emmersion being threatened by hired hitmen to kill him is fake and ludicrous, there is nothing like hitmen or task force in the A.P.C regime or even Sierra leone as a whole, We don’t encourage such dangerous groups within us, Your journalism is full of unfounded lies just inciting peaceful Sierra leoneans to some funny feelings about this progressive goverment, We in the diaspora has proven a lot of your newspapers to be biased and above all enemies of progresss, When can you stop posting false news to the world against a government that is working diligently for the progress and development of its people. Mr. Editor, it pays you no good, Dont take us back to the dark days, Journalism is a noble profession, Use it as a medium for progress not creating anarchy. Lonta.
