Indecent tussle for IMC top job

Indecent tussle for IMC top job thumbnail

Patchy rumours of President Koroma’s choice of appointment of the person to succeed the Chairperson of the Independent Media Commission (IMC), has been marred with grievous speculations that Tam Bayoh, who doubles as the Executive Director of Citizen Radio in the east of Freetown, Eagle Africa Radio in the west, and the Punch Newspaper respectively, is a possible option.

The rumour, to sections of media practitioners, does not only possess a stigmatized skeleton in backdoor cupboards, but unmitigated task of doubt or dream talk supposition.

The million dollar question on the lips of well meaning nationalists is, ‘why would the Presidency in the right sense of word decide to choose the beloved blue eye boy of the substantive IMC chairperson, Mrs. Bernadette Cole (in photo), to succeed her.

Could it be taken to mean that Tam Bayoh is the only fitted name that could fit into the IMC shoes of Mrs. Cole? One might be tempted to slant his thought towards the unholy alliance that had existed between the IMC Boss and her would be successor especially with regards to the defunct community radio network (CORNET), to which Cole was unilaterally appointed by her crony to preside over a whopping $1 million funding from the Open Society Initiative West Africa (OSIWA), as chairperson of the board.

It is of public interest to question the whereabout of all the funds that was injected into the 13 community radio stations that these funds and equipments were meant for.

This alliance kept on to the University of Sierra Leone (FBC) where also she skillfully in return complement to Tam Bayoh offered him a job as lecturer in the mass communication department, which gesture ended in a stalemate.

It is worth reflecting that Tam Bayoh was very instrumental in the ousting of the SLPP in the last general elections through his infamous good governance programme named ‘Monologue.’

And one might be tempted to think he deserves a pat on the back from HE the President, but that is not enough to earn him the enviable position of the Chairperson of the IMC.

Another school of thought has it that the recommendation is suspected to have come from Mammy Cole so that her crony David will wipe the spots she could have left behind during her tenure as chairperson.

More on this soon.
