Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu made the appeal to H.E. Malam Bacal Sanha in Istanbul, Turkey where all Member States of the OIC are commemorating the 25th Anniversary of the creation of the Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (COMCEC) by holding an Economic Summit to which Heads of States and Government of OIC Member-States have been invited.

According to the release from the OIC General Secretariat in Jeddah, the Secretary General asked the President of Guinea Bissau to bring his personal efforts to solve the situation in Guinea-Conakry within the context of supporting the mission assigned by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to the President of Burkina Faso.

Meanwhile, Sierra Leone’s President, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma who has also been very concerned about the political crisis in neighbouring Guinea arrived Sunday, 8th November, 2009 in Istanbul, Turkey to attend the 25th Session of COMEC. Report monitored from Istanbul states that President Koroma has also been supportive of the moves by the OIC scribe to end the crisis in his neighbouring country.

Sierra Leone has been a member of the OIC since 1972 under the Presidency of Dr. Siaka P. Stevens. The OIC is the second largest international organization after the United Nations with a membership of 59 States spreading over four continents – Africa, Arab, Asia and Europe.
