Sama Banya and Politics

Author: SEM Contributor

Dear Editor:  I am craving your indulgence to allow me space to make known my opinion on the writings of Dr. Sama Banya.

My concern is that although the eminent medical practitioner has been bringing in a lot of dirt on the ruling APC and how the SLPP has all this while been the ones who did all the great things in the country, my concern is that the medial doctor has always been prolific in writing about POLITICS. (My emphasis)

Sierra Leone is just not about politics alone, there are a lot of issues which need to be brought to the attention of Sierra Leoneans both SLPP and APC, brown and black, Muslim and Christian, etc. There is also the issue of the destruction going on in our environment which is not proving well for the country generally.

Incidentally, Dr. Banya is the head of the environmental awareness system in this country. Everyday we see charcoal burning, cutting of trees into boards and all types of environmental degradation. Who is going to talk of these issues when we are all talking about who brought in Bumbuna.

I think we should expect more from Dr. Banya. Yes, it is needed for Dr. Banya to support his SLPP but don’t you think as we are now faced with the issue of global environmental destruction in the country, we should start thinking globally rather than locally?

I believe that both the APC and the SLPP are basically the same. The SLPP and the APC are parties that have not shown any interest in maintaining the interest of the people and the betterment of the nation. Both of the parties are based on regional imbalance. The SLPP is dominated by the Mendes and the APC by the Temnes. No one can hide this fact. Dr. Banya has served both of these two parties up to the level of vice president in the APC and foreign minister in the SLPP. What can he therefore say about one of these political organizations that will really be seen as fact?

Maybe the kids who are born today might take Banya serious but those of us who know about Sierra Leone know who Banya is just another typical opportunist politician.

Banya has even had time to write gleefully about the song of Emmerson Bockarie, whom he now praises as the new Michael Jackson. Well, Banya might have his day for all I care. My concern is that we have far more serious matters affecting us than the fight between the APC and the SLPP.

As Emmerson rightly stated in an earlier song, water melon politicians are the ones destroying the country.

I really hope Dr. Banya will start writing his inspiring articles on the environment and give us a break from this political writings. Too much of one thing is good for nothing doc.
