Sierra Leone have moved into the top 12 in Africa in the latest FIFA World Ranking releases on Wednesday, despite not qualifying for the African Cup of Nations to be co-hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea next year. (Photo action Sierra Leone V Bafana inSouth Africa)
Sierra Leone’s national team, the Leone Stars moved five places in the world to number 63 belowCosta RicaandBelarusin the men ranking. After defeatingEgyptthe African Champions 2-1 inFreetownthey moved to 68th place in the World and 16th inAfricain the September ranking.
Many soccer pundits inSierra Leonehave expressed great optimism about the future and the pace at which the national team is rapidly on the rise and it a consolation for a wonderful campaign taking four points of the African Champions Egypt.
Sierra Leone is among the risers but Rwanda is believed to be the biggest riser after defeating Benin in their Final group match in the African Cup of Nations this month, moving up to 31 places to number 112 in the World and 29th in Africa.
The Elephant of Cote d’Ivoire topping the Continental list, and number 19th in the global rankings, followed by Egypt, Ghana, Algeria and Senegal.
