After its Golden Jubilee celebrations ten years ago, Government Secondary School Kenema is now highly charged to mark its 60th anniversary in a grand style, starting with a fund raising dance at the China Friendship House come tomorrow (Friday November 4th).

According to the acting President of Kenema Old Students Association (KOSA), Mohamed Kallon, his organization is leading preparations for this all important event which is expected to bring more members onboard for the development of the school.

He said KSS is one of the oldest provincial schools located in the eastern district town of Kenema that has produced many scholars, university doyens, outstanding civil servants, and academics who are now contributing to the development process of the country; adding that old students of KSS have always expressed their desire of paying back to their alma mater to boost the educational standard of the school.

“Though the school is located miles away from the capital city Freetown, yet government secondary school Kenema has contributed immensely towards the standard of education in Sierra Leone over the past fifty years.

“The 60th anniversary is indeed worth celebrating because within these years we have put the school on the educational map.  The old students have greatly contributed a lot to ensure that the school regains it past glory”.

The provision of a brand new brass band, computer accessories, the construction of a 1,000 seated stadium for the school, and the Le200 million library projects for the school, are key to our successes,’’ he  said, adding that a series of activities have been lined up both in Freetown and Kenema to mark this all important event.
