Three Cabinet Ministers, one Deputy Minister in the Ernest Bai Koroma-led APC government and one former Minister are currently in the Holy land of Mecca to perform this year’s Muslim Pilgrimage, “Hajj.”

Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation Minister, Zainab Hawa Bangura, Internal Affairs, Local Government and Rural Development Minister, Ambassador Dauda Sulaiman Kamara, Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, Gender and Children’s Affairs, Honourable Jenneh Kandeh arrived here Friday, 20th November, 2009 on the invitation of the Saudi Royal Protocol Department.

Employment, Labour and Social Security Minister, Honourable Minkailu Mansaray and former Minister of Transport and Aviation, Mr. Kemoh Sesay arrived here with the first batch of 497 Pilgrims on Thursday, 12th November, 2009.

On arrival, all the aforementioned were delightedly pleased to talk to the Information Bureau of the Sierra Leone Embassy and they unanimously promised to pray for Sierra Leone, its leaders and people.

The Ministers also urged the other Sierra Leonean Pilgrims to use the opportunity while performing the HAJJ to pray fervently for their leaders and the nation as a whole.

They asked the Pilgrims to shun political, ethnic and regional differences and put the country first.

The first to speak on arrival was Kemoh Sesay who is the current Chairman of the APC, Port Loko District.  Hear him: “I am sure every patriotic Sierra Leonean will pray for the country. If our country forges ahead, it will be good for all of us.”

The Ministers will this week join over two million Muslims across the world to visit holy places in Mecca, Mina and Arafat to perform the Hajj religious rites. Hajj is the fifth pillar of Islam, which every adult Muslim must undertake at least once in their life time if they can afford it and physically fit.

According to statistics available with the Saudi Hajj Ministry, every year over two million Muslims converge on Mecca- to take part in an event which combines piety and passion.
