As part of moves to ensure that the rights of people are respected in the country properly, the National Forum for Human Rights (NFHR), a coalition of activists, has established a Human Rights Defenders Association.
In an interview, NFHR Human Right’s activist Alfred Carew said they decided to form the association as part of a move to fill up the vacuum existing within communities where abuses against the rights of people prevail.
“The association will work in a collaborative move with other such organizations to work against the violation of Human Rights and to promote Human Rights in Sierra Leone,” Mr. Carew said.
The human right’s official went on to condemn the constant action of human right violation with impurity wherein, he said, absolutely no action is taken. “Human Rights are God’s given rights and as such issues dealing with Human Rights must be upheld, maintained, and promoted for the sake of humanity. Meanwhile, he appealed to all Human Rights organizations to work hand in hand to promote and develop the culture of humanity.
Meanwhile, a senior human right’s activist has said that while other forms of violations common in war like abduction and killings are no more, domestic violence is now the prevailing cause of abuse.
