Salone Pilgrims Flu Free

Reports reaching the Sierra Express Media say Sierra Leone pilgrims who went on pilgrimage to the Holy land of Mecca have passed medical tests and they are said to be free from the HINI Swine flu. According to the Assistant Deputy Minister of Health and Sanitation of Saudi Arabia, Dr. Ziad Al-Memish he was quite satisfied that none of the pilgrims from the sub-region had symptoms of the flu.

VP Resists Corruption

A senior civil servant has praised VP Sam Sumana as a no-nonsense man in the fight against corrupt practices. His tough stance against corruption was revealed in one of his routine visits to the Ministry of Health and Sanitation. He has ordered the Anti Corruption Commission to investigate one Jamal Shallop following his winning of contract in the Ministry of Health. Meanwhile, the VP has cautioned all procurement contracts to stop until the Jamal Shallop issue is properly probe.

SLAJ Convene August Meeting In Makeni

The Sierra Leone Association of Journalist (SLAJ) is holding their annual General meeting (AGM) in the northern city of Makeni on the 27th November, 2009. According to the secretary General, Mustapha Sesay 300 delegates are expected to attend this very important meeting. He also added that the necessary preparations are been put in place in terms of food and accommodation.

No Fuel Scarcity, No Price Increase

Tangible sources have revealed that there is no fuel scarcity, and at the same time no increase in the price of fuel. According to the President of the Consumer Unit Mr. Kabia on 98.1 Radio on Monday 23rd November, 2009 there had been a technical problem at the oil refinery which would be fixed at any time from now. Moreover, other sources disclose that it was due to the sky-rocketing of the U.S dollars from Le 4,000 to 4,300 within the space of 3weeks, and that oil marketers are finding it difficult to compromise that increase in the prices of dollars to that of petroleum products.

NPA Signals Christmas/New year Blackout

The management of the National Power Authority (NPA) has promptly notified its numerous customers that they will experience perpetual blackouts if they fail to pay their bills and other accumulative arrears before November 30th 2009. According to the management in as much as Bumbuna is here to meet their cooperate responsibility; customers must pay their bills to keep it running. Avoid blackout on Christmas and New Year’s Day, pay your bills, an NPA release says.

Kambia Hospital Receive Boost

Standard health delivery service has been prioritized in the Kambia Government hospital under the new leadership of Dr. Francis Jayah as District Medical Officer (DMO) after a long term controversy between the former hospital administration and the indigenes of Kambia and other medical authorities. According to Dr. Francis Jayah since his appointment he has frantically taken brave steps to strike compromise between the secondary health sector and the primary health care service which was continually apart because of an alleged mistrust between Dr. Kargbo, the former district medical officer and Dr. David Sesay.

Customs officers Abandon Gbalamuya Check Point

Following the unrest in neighboring Guinea, reports on our local tabloids reveal that customs officers have abandoned the customs post under the leadership of Mr. Alhassan Kamara, a senior customs collector. This attitude by these officials has caused the government to lose substantial revenue from dutiable goods. “This unmanned situation at the customs at Gbalamuya has created a-safer corridor for both Mr. Alhassan Kamara and assistant Mr. Lahai to pocket government money with no hesitation, said an anonymous business woman said.
