Officers Benefit From Short French Courses

Nine Soldiers from the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) have benefited from the basic and intermediate French courses at the Ministry of Defence (MOD) Conference Hall on Thursday November 20th 2009. Minister of Defence, Retired Major Paolo Conteh said learning French as a second language would make the RSLF personnel to become more flexible and versatile, especially in the area of peace keeping mission in French West Africa. He added that this French course would save them the constraint in employing an interpreter.

Njala Students Disgruntled Over High College Fees

Following the recent strike action by students at Fourah Bay College (FBC), students of Njala Campus have gone on the rampage over the skyrocketing college fees. According to report, they put road blocks blocking the main Bo/Tiama highway. While in the process of venting out their anger they vandalized property and even attempted to destroy the vice chancellor’s windscreen, 13 students have been nabbed helping the police with investigations.

Another Cocaine Case Surface

After the interception of a large quantum of cocaine in July 2008, another cocaine peddler has been arrested at Sierra Leone international Airport. This time around a police officer a Nigerian, and a few others are said to be involved in the deal. While investigating the Nigerian, he defecated 25 parcels of cocaine substance, and 12 parcels have gone missing out the 25 parcels and the whereabouts is still a mystery.

Salone Film Industry Makes A Spectacular Move

The Sierra Leone film industry under the directive of Karim Bah and Chester Yang has produced a Sierra Leonean movie titled “Babylon Illusion”. The film is sub-titled in Krio for the lay Sierra Leonean to grasp the message. The main theme of this movie is centered around the day-dreaming in Europe and America. The film has been premiered at the British Council Hall and subsequent premiere will take place in the provinces this December.

Prisoners Throw Blows On Prison Officers

Prisoners at the Pademba Road Maximum Prison have on yesterday 1st December gone on a rampage during a routine search at the prison cells. According to an interview conducted by 98.1 “Good Morning” programme, the Public Relation Officer of Prisons Mr. Mohamed Jimmy said the routine checking is being carried out to ascertain that prisoners are devoid of weapons such as knives that would harm themselves. While on the other hand, the prisoners have intimated that the prison officers wanted to grab their meager provisions (food and toiletries) given to them.
