Ex–HANCI boss speaks out

Ex–HANCI boss speaks out thumbnail

The former Executive Director of the NGO, Help A Needy Child International (HANCI), Dr. Roland F. Kargbo (in photo) on Tuesday spoke for the first time in a press conference held at the NGO’s offices at Pademba Road, Freetown. He said he decided to speak to save his reputation which has taken a public beating over the past decade. He said certain departments within the government are impacting upon his life and the lives of the nearly 15,000 children under HANCI’s care and support.

“I have long been on public record as to what happened during the adoption for which the Justice Showers Commission of Inquiry was set up. In fact, there has already been two investigations, now there is a third, even though no new evidence has been brought to light. I have nothing new to add to what I have already said under oath on the matter”, stated Dr. R F Kargbo.

He said he has given enough facts and is ready to comply in full terms with proceedings of the investigations.

He said some twenty years ago, he started HANCI without noticing that the NGO would attract the number of children it has today under their care and control.  Dr. Kargbo said he is a human with a lot of passion for children that wholeheartedly supports and subscribes to the fact that the operations of HANCI should not be stopped owing to the fact that the future of 14,692 most vulnerable children will be put on hold.

Mr. Kargbo demanded that government consider their blanket ban on the NGO and clear the stage for their continued operations.
