The Custodian of the two holy Mosques in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, King Abdallah Ibn Abdul Aziz Al-Saud (photo) last week invited hundreds of pilgrims, including four Sierra Leoneans to a welcome reception at the Mina Palace.

Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, H.E Wusu B. Munu, Minister of Internal Affairs, Local Government and Rural Development, Ambassador Alhaji Dauda Sulaiman Kamara, Director General of UNIDO, Kandeh K. Yumkella and Chairman of the Sierra Leone Hajj Mission, Sheik Ahmed Tejan Siilah were amongst the hundreds of pilgrims invited by the King.

In his address, the King told his audience that it was a pleasure for Saudi Arabia to host millions of Muslims across the world and it has devoted itself to the mission of discharging this duty in the best possible manner in order to cultivate God’s pleasure and help the pilgrims with the smooth performance of their religious rites.

King Abdallah said the course of action for Muslims shall be focused on the achievement of stability, giving others what is due to them, averting evil, eliminating injustice and making others happy, adding, “for Islam is a religion of mercy to all mankind.”

Muslims today, the King advised, more than ever before, need to hold fast to their religion and to implement its teachings in order to build confidence among each other.

“Our religion rejects isolation and forbids sowing the seeds of ill-will and hatred among the peoples of the world. It does not close the door on dealing with others simply on account of their creeds being different from ours; on the contrary, it is a faith of tolerance that calls on its followers to live with others in peace and dignity.”

Speaking to the Information Bureau of the Sierra Leone Embassy shortly before he left for Freetown over the weekend, Ambassador Dauda Kamara had this to say: “As Ambassador for many years, I have had the opportunity in my life to meet a large number of Heads of States in Africa, Europe and America. But meeting the King of Saudi Arabia, who is also the Custodian of the two Holy Mosques, is an exceptional experience which I will never forget.”

Ambassador Dauda further said that he took the opportunity to deliver a message of greetings from His Excellency, the President, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, the government and people of Sierra Leone to the King and People of Saudi Arabia.”

Explaining his experience during the Hajj, Ambassador Alhaji Dauda Kamara said: “Visiting the Kaa’ba and seeing the number of people representing the human race, you have to believe there is an Almighty called Allah.”

“The range of people I saw, old, middle aged and young converging on the Kaa’ba reciting “Allahu Akbar” meaning God is great is a thing one does not easily forgets.”

Concluding, the Minister said: “Coming here at my own age with the knowledge I have of the world already, provides me a unique opportunity. As a public figure, I have to share my experience with others and encourage those who have not visited here to pay a visit. “
