25 Medics Return from Professional Training

Twenty-five health professionals, mostly district health sisters and medical officials, were on Wednesday 2nd December, 2009 received by the Deputy Minister of Health and Sanitation, Mohamed D. Koroma, after three months training in Ghana. The medics received training in Epidemiology, Health Surveillance and Health systems Management at the Legon University in Ghana.

Man Changes to Monkey

Report from Pujehun Town, Southern province of Sierra Leone, said a young man called Foday Kpaka was reportedly shot by a hunter called Lahai Kpaka. According to the report, the hunter saw a monkey and shot it but the monkey mysterious materialized into a young man.

Japan gives Financial Support to Reduce Maternal and Child Mortality

The Japanese government has provided US $1,300, for the prevention and control of infectious diseases” supporting the efforts of the government to reduce child and infant mortality in Sierra Leone. The Japanese ambassador to Sierra Leone, H.E. Keiichi Katakami, said they have since 1998 donated more than US $20,000,000 for child survival and education in Sierra Leone.

National Campaign on HIV/AIDS Test Continues

The 1st of December, 2009 was commemorated as World AIDS Day with the national theme “Help Protect Your Baby. Get tested for HIV”. The National HIV/AIDS Secretariat, along with its partners launched a campaign for pregnant women to go along with their husbands for HIV/AIDS test. This campaign will continue until the 15th December, 2009.

Libya gives free Medical Services to Sierra Leone

A team of doctors, known as medical relief caravan from the World Islamic Call Society, an international non-governmental organization based in Libya, is in Sierra Leone for two weeks to offer free medical services to the less privileged. The team is comprised of eye and skin specialists.

65,000,000(Le) Needed Per Month for Community Policing

The acting Inspector General for the Sierra Leone Police, Morie Lengor, has said that the police force needs a budget of sixty Five Million Leones per month to implement the community safety security volunteer project.
