Freetown – For the first time in the history of the CNN/Multi Choice African Journalists Awards, the SLAJ Secretariat is urging Sierra Leonean journalists to participate in the prestigious competition by sending in entries. Application is now open and there is limited number of entry forms obtainable at the SLAJ Secretariat at 56 Campbell Street on a first-come-first-served basis. “I am encouraging all journalists to seize this opportunity to show to the rest of the continent that it was in Sierra Leone that print journalism started in West Africa and where broadcast journalism began in Sub Saharan Africa” said Umaru Fofana, President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists.
Deadline for submission of all entries is 28 January 2010. This means that the SLAJ Secretariat should receive all entries on or before Thursday 21 January 2010 to give time to the Multi Choice Office in Freetown to send it within the deadline.
The CNN, Multi Choice African Journalists Awards, which this year takes place in Kampala, Uganda, from 27 – 30 May 2010, is an annual event which recognizes and celebrates excellence in African journalism.
