Sierra Leone lost 2-1 to Sao Tome & Principe in a 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match in Sao Tome back in February this year and both nations will face each other in the Sierra Leone capital Freetown National Stadium this Saturday.
Sierra Express UK football pundit Alie Bittar, (in photo) believes nothing short of three points will suffice for Sierra Leone in a bid to overturn their shocking defeat under the leadership of Swedish Coach Lars Olof Mattsson.
Bittar who is also a freelance correspondent for African Sports Network accepted the fact that there is a lot of talent in the present Sierra Leone squad and in recent months that has been proven by the way Sierra Leone is rising in the latest Fifa World Ranking.
“No disrespect to Sao Tome but Sierra Leone rank 10th in Africa and have enough talent to thrash their visitors when the two sides meet this weekend, and on paper will always be the favourites on the day” Bittar fumed.
However, football is a game that is full of surprises; Sierra Leone gave away a 1-0 lead to lose 2-1; that is just enough of how football can be when there is too much complacency.
“We all know about the two nations and Sierra Leone with their latest rise in the world ranking 59 and with all the quality players in top European clubs without doubt every fan will be going to watch an exciting victory, not even thinking about a draw or defeat,” said Bittar.
“I’m not sure about the team preparation, but I do believe we have everything it takes to give Sao Tome a good and harsh 90 minutes of football. Going back Sao Tome were hammered 5-0 at home, on the other hand they got a credible 1-1 draw in Brazzaville”.
“I don’t want to say there is not enough talent in the Sao Tome line-up that will face Sierra Leone but I think Sierra Leone have to go for the win”
