Airtel launches mobile commerce thumbnail

Leading mobile telecommunication company Airtel on Wednesday 20th June launched its loudest Airtel Money at the Taia Resort hotel beach road Lumley.

Chairman of the program Nelson Streeter said Airtel has continued to be relentless in ensuring their customers satisfaction.

Commercial Director, Keith Tukei said the launch of Airtel money in Sierra Leone is very important as it will address the much needed gap of equitable money distribution. He also said with Airtel money, you no longer need to carry money –all you would need is your mobile telephone. This service he says will allow customers to send money to loved ones, pay essential utility bills such as electricity and water and even grocery bills in the supermarket.

Keith confirmed that there are several partners that Airtel is working with to enable these services. “These partnerships clearly demonstrate the revolutionary role mobile communication can play in improving the livelihoods of the communities we all serve. The number of outlets signing up for this service is growing very rapidly”, he stated. Keith ended by saying that Airtel Money will be accessible everywhere they have network coverage adding that it is Airtel’s hope that this product will impact to everyone positively.

Head of Mobile Commerce - Tapsir N;Jai

Head of Mobile Commerce at Airtel, Tapsir N’Jai said Airtel Money is a product that will be loved by Sierra Leoneans, banks, NGOs and corporate institutions. Tapsir also said that they have five (5) agents presently which they hope to increase. Mr. N’Jai did the presentation on Airtel Money.

Minister of Finance and Economic Development Hon Samurano Kamara

Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Hon. Samura Kamara said in his statement keynote address that he knows no other service provider than Airtel. Hon Samura also said he was impressed by the rapid increase of internet facilities in the country. He further stated that Airtel has brought in the large population that is unbanked. He therefore concluded by saying with Airtel Money, both banking and unbanked customers are able to take advantage of the telecommunications providers expansive network to make affordable, fast and secure financial transactions. He therefore launched the Airtel Money after his statement.
