On Saturday 30th June, Freetown’s magnificent Parade Ground, off Circular Road, will showcase the most exciting young footballers in Sierra Leone as teams from across the country compete for the Craig Bellamy Foundation National Youth League title.
Kicking off at 10am, everyone is welcome to support and celebrate a full day of fixtures including the semi-finals and finals of the u12 boys, u14 boys and girls competitions.
Now in its third season, the League’s unique model awards league points for school attendance, fair-play, and delivering community development projects, as well as football match results.
Over the weekend, the top Boys teams from across the country took part in regional playoffs with the winners earning an invite to Freetown to contest the championship along with the Girls League finalists:
The Boys League Grand Final will see the winner of DJ Med (Kenema) vs Welding Utd (Bo) face the winner of FC Malcolm (Freetown) vs Cowyard FC (Makeni) at the u12 level. Whilst at the u14 level, the winners of Supersport Utd (Kenema) vs Arrow FC (Bo) and FC Malcolm (Freetown) vs Area Best (Makeni) will battle it out for the title.
The Girls League Grand Final will feature two teams new to our league this year compete to be National champions. We have Malimba Queens FC (Makeni), who narrowly beat last years winners Suba FC, and we have Jam Jam FC (Kenema) who led their league from start to finish.
CBF League Manager Pete Beeley said: “We are in for a thrilling finale as we approach the end of the CBF League’s third season and we hope to get thousands of people along for what promises to be a fun filled day. Congratulations not only to the teams that made the Finals, but to all those taking part this season. It is great to see every team continue to compete with passion, determination and respect for the League’s principles.”
