On Sunday July 15 a boat called “TARAWUNIE” sailing from Brushra Port in the Republic of Guinea to Rokupr Wharf developed engine problem at about 1700 hrs around Salatoke Senegal area towards Yeliboya Island in Port Loko district.

This was made known by Capt (N) Daniel Sao Mansaray, commanding officer of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) Navy at news a conference held at his Murray Town Naval base office yester noon.

According to Capt. (N) D.S Mansaray, the boat later hard increase of sea water, resulting from a missing wood being part pf the hulledding that at last the boat was partially submerged at certain stages of the flooding tide.

He clarified that there were 8 crew on board with bags of onions. The eight survivors include Umarr Kargbo, the Coxswain, Foday Conteh, Osman Conteh, Meakra Kamara, Sheku Turay, Mohamed Onyallay, Abu Sesay and Oku Kamara who managed to stay afloat as they were having life jackets on board.

He maintained that the Traffic Regulator, Alieu Kamara of the Sierra Leone Maritime Administration (SLMA) has informed the overseer north who in turned conveyed the distress message to the Maritime safety supervisor who then gave instruction to the RSLAF Navy to effect a search and rescue mission.

He added that the Traffic Regulator at Rokupr was part of the team that rescued the 8 survivors and their properties taken to Rokupr town in safe and sound condition at about 3pm on Monday July 9, 2012 as there were no causalities.

Reports have it that this is not the first time that the RSLAF Navy is doing a good job for Sierra Leone. The Navy has saved over 2000 lives not to talk about countless Piracy at sea since Capt. (N) Mansaray took over three years ago as commander.

He has served the army with distinction and has won laurels nationally and internationally during this year’s independent Day awards ceremony he was the only soldier that was awarded with the state for his meritorich service. Capt. (N) D.S Mansaray, indicated to duty firm, focus, loyal, result oriented, kind, patriotic and a perfect administrator.
