Freetown, July 19 (SLENA): The Chairman and staff members of the National Commission for Democracy (NCD) had a fruitful discussion with youth organizations in the Western Area at the NCD office in Freetown.

The meeting is to reach a consensus on how these youth organizations would implement the programmes generated by NCD on volunteerism.

Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Abu Bakarr Kargbo said that the commission cannot simultaneously reach out to everybody but by collaborating with volunteer organizations the commission would definitely reach the people in all the regions.

He stressed that the commission urgently needs partners in order to embark on civic education  not only for the forth coming elections but for other activities such as democratic process in the country.

Dr. Kargbo reiterated that the role of the Commission is to sensitize and engage in public education for Democracy to thrive. He emphasized that democratic good governance is pivotal in any civilized nation state. He stated that governance is a concerted effort of sharing ideas between different sectors of society, adding that the NCD needs a great number of people to propagate the democratic good governance.

Dr. Kargbo observed that training opportunities would be provided for the volunteers together with logistical support. He said a Memorandum of Understanding will be signed between his commission and the organizations and assured his Commission would register, incorporate and issue to the volunteers certificates of merit as partners in development.

Representatives of the organizations expressed their delight and described the National Commission for Democracy as a working tool for national development. They appealed to the Commission to provide them with the necessary logistics in order to facilitate their work.
