A combined team of police personnel headed by Detective Inspector, Steven Moses Kandeh, Officer Commanding in charge of the Anti Robbery unit, West and ASP Bandabla, Operations Officer ‘D’ Divisional Headquarters, Kissy have arrested five armed robbers with nine rounds of ammunition and a five star pistol on Friday July 27th at Newcastle Street Kissy, and Bismarck Johnson Street respectively.

According to Inspector Kandeh, they received tip off that armed robbers had placed No 15 Newcastle Street under siege and that they boarded on a Nissan Sunny taxi number AEC 839.

He said they wasted no time to go on the offensive and in the process, they captured five persons suspected to be criminals and are currently being detained at the Kissy Police Division.

Those arrested include, Alpha Kargbo alias Alpha Noukoh and Mohamed Conteh and others.

Inspector Steven Kandeh said there were an old damaged stabilizer, old car battery, damaged digital portable CD player, seven butcher knives, two damaged mobile phones and an old driving mirror glass in the said taxi cab.

At 15 Newcastle Street, the following items were discovered: car battery, four batteries manual radio, car speakers, Compact Disc and audio cassettes, damaged stereo speakers, damaged DVD player, damaged Sunny Television, two damaged MP3 VCD radio player and a pistol containing three rounds of magazine. Three voter ID cards bearing the names Mariam Sillah, Hussainatu Kamara of No 51A Davies Street and Abdul Rashid Kamara, of Petifu junction Lungi were also found.

Police Sgt. 5715 Bockarie Paul Thomas sustained injuries on his left foot whilst trying to arrest one of the armed robbers, however, reports say he is responding to treatment out of his own measured resources.

Several people have praised the charismatic nature of the newly transferred LUC Curtis Koroma, for a job well done including the Inspector General of Police, Francis A. Munu and his executive for this new twist in fighting the menace of crime in the east part of Freetown.

Inspector Kandeh said the Executive Management Board (EMB) of the Sierra Leone Police is poised to provide the necessary logistics that would enable police personnel to respond promptly to tip-off or distress calls soon as they are made. Meanwhile, some members of the public are calling on the IGP to consider both the operational support delta team and the general police personnel in recommending them for the available police promotions to motivate their spirit in the job.

One Comment on "Police Nab 5 Armed Robbers"

It really seems to me the police authorities know most or possibly all the armed robbers and I really cannot understand why the government is not providing the necessary resources including the political backing to eradicate the scourge of armed robbery once and for all.
The then Deputy Internal AffairsRaymond Kabia claiming last year that armed robberies are being instigated by some politicians is a complete disgrace for someone in his position to utter such a comment and then do noting about it.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs’ primary responsibility is to ensure the safety and security of each and every citizen and to identify all threats to the country’s stability.
For a police officer to get injured in the line of duty and having to pay for his own treatment for injuries sustained really does not project a very positive image of the police force and of the judicial system.
There has always been thieves in the country and any of these were well known by some members of the public and by the police and it really will not be a very difficult task to put the all armed robbers under constant surveillance and make it known to them that they are being monitored and will be held responsible should anything go wrong.
Members of the public should be able to go about their daily activities as safely as possible and should be able to sleep at night in peace.
Ensuring this is the primary responsibility of every government
