“The Salone athletes are very determined’’- NOC President

The President of the National Olympic Committee (NOC), Henry G Moore, has said that the two Sierra Leonean athletes in this year’s Olympic Games in London who are representing the country are very determined and they are in high spirits to spring surprises, especially the female athlete Ola Sesay who is very hopeful of winning at least a bronze medal.  (Photo: NOC President Henry G Moore )

He made this statement to this medium after visiting the two athletes at the Olympic Village in London on Monday July 30th, 2012.

When asked why there were only 6 people from Sierra Leone marching during the open ceremony, the NOC President Henry G Moore said that this time it was restricted and it was determined by the number of athletes, as we only have two athletes, they were accompanied by four officials

When asked why Sierra Leone only goes with only two athletes to the games the NOC President said that at the Olympic Games you need to qualify to participate in such games, it is like Commonwealth Games, or All Africa Games, where you can just take athletes to participate in such games.

The Olympic Games is above those games he stated, that is why they in the NOC did all their best to make sure that many athletes qualify and that is why some even go to Senegal for training, but at the end of the day only one athlete qualified with B standard, and that was Ola Sesay a female athlete, and the other athlete is a male Ibrahim Turay who went to the games as a non qualifying athlete – the simply reason for that is that the IOC always gives two spaces to any country one male and one female each  who do not qualify for the games so as to represent their country, as they did not want to leave any country out during such games.

The NOC president went further to describe this year ‘s opening ceremony of the London Olympic Games as fantastic  as some of them who were in the Beijing games four years ago thought no other country would surpass them, but it was a different situation last Friday during this year Olympic Games as everything during the open was superb.
