2012 Presidential flagbearer for the main opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party, Julius Maada Bio (in photo), has said in Freetown that his party has put in place an imperfect system for the awarding of symbols to different deserving candidates for the November 17 elections.

Speaking to hundreds of aspirants at the SLPP headquarters on Wallace Johnson Street, Freetown, Julius Maada Bio urged the team to remain peaceful and united even if they fail to secure the symbol.

The SLPP presidential nominee confirmed that the system set up by the party hierarchy to award symbols is not perfect for now, but notes that all must follow the trend to have a perfect one.

Explaining the symbol awarding process to aspirants, SLPP elections Management Board Secretary General, Jacob Jusu Saffa, said there are three phases to the process:  scrutinizing aspirants to see whether they confirm applications criteria, dialogue stage for some aspirants to drop their aspirations, and if that failed the party will be left to decide fates of the candidates that should be granted the symbols.

J.J Saffa called on all intending aspirants to follow these causes and be satisfied in the instance where the party has to take it final decision.

One aspirant for the local council elections, Sheik Umarr, expressed dissatisfaction on the process noting that the party has already chosen who they want but are only trying to extract money from other people to fund their campaign.
