As the step to liberating Yenga diplomatically from sister nation Guinea bears fruit, Sierra Leone musician, Obi-Phrase Kamara has been hitting the airwaves at the Etnokult Festival, Finland.
Representing the sacred green, white, and blue flag on stage, artist Obi-Phrase Kamara demonstrated a true spirit of nationalism through his performance in the festival, Obi and his cross culture band staged one of the best performances among a list of thirty musical brass bands, which automatically earned his recognition amongst many more musical band gigs in Europe.
Amongst the songs sang in the festival were Save Yenga, Blackman, Slavery, Racism and Save the Children the popular hit song in the track title. Obi decided to perform and titled his album “Save the Children” to lobby for financial support in the world over at the International Music Festival for the less-privileged children in Sierra Leone.
In an interview with Sierra Express Media, Obi-Phrase Kamara revealed that he launched the Peaceful National Campaign “Save Yenga” through music in 2008, after a 70-day musical tour in the Eastern District of Kailahun, staging 16 peace concerts. He said “We are agitating that those in Yenga exercise their rights fully.”
Obi-Phrase and wife Barbro Fri Kamara have been contributing in helping out less privileged children through their RIPSTA Culture Foundation and Children Cross Cultures group, in awarding scholarship opportunities to deserving children in the country. Mrs. Barbro Fri Kamara also revealed to this press that they are interested in empowering women in Sierra Leone.
Obi-Phrase was also known as the founder of the Sierra Leone Reggae Union in 2006, while he was the first coordinator of Shain Foundation musical-live band of the late famous reggae singer Amara Kabba.
