Energy Ministry& SALWACO Launch Kabala Water Project thumbnail

The Ministry of Energy and Water Resources, in collaboration with the Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO), on Thursday August 23rd officially launched the Kabala water project operations at the District Headquarter Town of Koinadugu, Northern Sierra Leone.

The ceremony paid host to many state dignitaries in which the Minister of Energy and Water Resources, Oluniyi Robbin-Coker, expressed the Government’s desire of improving the lives and living conditions of the people of Koinadugu. He said it was on such backdrop the project was been launched.

Speaking further, Hon. Robin Coker said the people of Kabala have been without the supply of pipe borne water for over twenty years now on reasons he attributed to some challenges in the past. He iterated that his ministry is embarking on a project scheme of rehabilitating the water supply channels so as to include the people of Koinadugu in the new agenda for prosperity.

Project Coordinator of the said Rehabilitation Water Project, Mohamed Bah intimated this press that the project started during the reign of President Ahmed Tejan Kabbah who sourced finances from the Arabic Bank (ABA) and they donated Four Million United States Dollar ($4M). He said developmental oriented President Ernest Koroma took-off from such stop and sourced in the sums of Twelve Million United States Dollars ($12m) to the said project a reality.

He said the project was designed to target two paramount schemes, which are the re-construction of the township water network supply system and the construction of a new service reservoir to network the whole system.

Having satisfied this, Mr. Bah said all the international bidding have been awarded to the deserving construction company which will be targeting six areas, to construct a new 8.5ml reinforced concrete reservoir and the necessary fittings, constructing and erect in-line valves (air, scour, gate etc) and bulk water meters, construct a new 500mm dia x 21.5km pumping main with ancillary works, construct a new water treatment works with all the necessary pipe-works and electro-mechanical work, to construct a new raw water pump-station at the abstraction works position, construction of all the relevant fittings to complete the project.

He maintained further that the construction exercise will soon commence and that the people of Kabala will enjoy the facilities that will be provided by the project.
