Dr. Serray Dumbuya (in photo) who is vying for the position of Honorable Member of Parliament in Constituency 49, under the political umbrella of the All People’s Congress Party (APC) in Port-Loko District, on Sunday September 16th, engaged youths, aspirants and stakeholders in a non-violent campaign at the Port-Loko Court Barry.

The ceremony attracted a host of dignitaries in the township.  Chairman of the occasion, Rhoda Bangura lamented on the lost glory of the township, reminiscing that Port-Loko was once referred to as “Black man London” but blamed the culture of disunity and cabalist ideology amongst various stakeholders who should be championing progress and development in the District as the result for the downward-trend.

He argued that the township yearns for social challenges such as poor roads, no electricity and pipe born water supply. He continued that the august gathering is aimed to assemble the current crop of youths to deliberate on the issues that are top of their development agenda.

Whilst addressing the mammoth crowd, consisting of youths as well as the aged, Dr, Alhaji Serray Dumbuya noted that this occasion was mapped out under the spirit of accountability, transparency, and result oriented base approach, which according to him has been lacking over the years by politicians in that part of the country.

He explained further that if he is voted or awarded the symbol of the APC, his agenda will prioritize the interest of the people above self. The aspirant admonished all other aspirants to consider the pride in nationalism if any one of them is awarded the symbol of the party. He also stressed that if development is to reflect in the district there is a need to embrace the lost culture of togetherness that was demonstrated by their forefathers.

He rested his speech on the denouncement of violence, saying it is a bad recipe to fights ones compatriots all in the name of politic, as unity is the greatest weapon after the wind of politics.

Addressing the people of the township, the household political father of Port-Loko Alhaji Yayah-Deen Kamara, who doubles as the Presidential Peacemaker noted that the recent spate of anger expressed by the youths of the township was considered to be genuine as it constitutes their civic rights, but he also noted that the President has always considered the district as the conduit of the APC party.

He said he brings with him the good tidings of H.E Ernest Koroma as there is currently an ongoing construction of roads, and installation of water taps in the District all at the behest of the President.

Also at the occasion was Suliaman Idriss Bangura commonly known as a mouthpiece of the youths, recapping on a plethora of issues pointing them to the lack of unity by political bigwigs of the district.

Other political aspirants were toed the podium calling on the agenda laid by Dr. Dumbuya as a hallmark to the sign of better days coming for the people of Port-Loko.
