The Sierra Leone Embassy in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has extended an official invitation to the 57 Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to send observers to the nation’s Presidential, Legislative and Local Council elections scheduled for November this year. Minister Counselor and Head of Chancery, Ibrahim S. Yilla and the Embassy’s Information Attaché, Alhaji M.B Jalloh extended the invitation at the just concluded OIC Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) Preparatory to the Thirty- Ninth Session of the Islamic Council of Foreign Ministers (ICFM) hosted in Saudi Arabia’s second capital, Jeddah last week.
Both men assured the 56 heads of delegation to the session that their government had put necessary measures in place to ensure free, fair and transparent elections. Messrs Yilla and Jalloh were also quick to inform interested Member States to do so through the usual diplomatic channel.
The OIC (formerly Organization of the Islamic Conference) is the second largest inter-governmental organization after the United Nations which has membership of 57 states spread over four continents.
The Organization is the collective voice of the Muslim world and ensuring to safeguard and protect the interests of the Muslim world in the spirit of promoting international peace and harmony among various people of the world. Sierra Leone became a member of the OIC in 1971 under the presidency of the late Dr. Siaka Probyn Stevens.
