The Alim Kamara Trust (AKT)

The Alim Kamara Trust (AKT) thumbnail

Through his songs; a fusion of hip hop and social consciousness, Alim Kamara continues to inspire and spread positive messages worldwide.  His aim through the Alim Kamara Trust (AKT)  is to set up an educational charity that will intially launch in Ghbinti.  While continuing with his motivational speaking and music, Alim’s ambitions for AKT are remarkable and inspiring.  In an interview with Sierra Express Media, Alim outlined his plans for the Alim Kamara Trust …  (Photo: Alim Kamara receiving his awarded ‘Best Motivational Speake’r at the Sierra Leone Excellence Awards)

Mission Statement: Our mission is to support education in Sierra Leone by supplying classroom materials to schools and delivering talks on motivation, storytelling and sexual health. These provisions will all be in the aid of strengthening communities and increasing knowledge that build confidence and well-being.

Aim: A mosque and church in Gbinti will be the initial starting point for the provision of classroom materials and Freetown to deliver interactive talks. Once we have laid a based foundation we plan to later on start supplying clothes for the underprivileged, raising money for water facilities and also educate the Diasporas on the history of Sierra Leone (To build appreciation).

At independence in 1961, Sierra Leone due to its seemingly unparallel track record in education and maintaining a vibrant and productive bureaucracy was rated as one of the successes stories of the new African States. Fourah Bay College established in 1829, made commendable strides in providing enviable quality education not only for Sierra Leoneans, but for other West Africans. Sadly recently Sierra Leone has been rated as having one of the highest literacy rates in the world.

How we plan to achieve our goals: Working collaboratively with communities will be a key aspect of our projects. From the outset we will meet with the communities and get them to identify and agree on what it is that keeps their children out of school.

For example; lack of infrastructure stopping any kind of decent lesson being delivered, such as ruined school building without any desks or blackboard. Children just too hungry to learn.

History of Founder: The founder of this mission is award winning lyricist Mr Alim Kamara,  a rapper, Storyteller and poet based in the UK. He has already within the UK spent time in many schools, motivating and inspiring young people. Having been described as an inspiration, Alim Kamara is a very personate in his Art.  Raised in one of the most socially deprived areas in London, was a driving force in Alim’s chosen path in the hope that he could inspire others by his choices.

It is this motivation that Alim hopes to bring to Sierra Leone and hopefully inspire the younger generation in Sierra Leone.
