Mountain Community Concerned over Poor Electricity Supply

Mountain Community Concerned over Poor Electricity Supply thumbnail

The people of Gloucester, Leicester, Regent, Charlotte, and environs in the Mountain Community in the Western Area Rural District are not happy with the way and manner they are being neglected by the regime saying they have not been reflected in the President’s agenda for change, especially in the area of electricity and other social amenities.  (Photo: Leicester, Sierra Leone)

Gauging from the responses from residents of Gloucester and Leicester, it was revealed that this Government has totally failed to incorporate them into the wind of infrastructural change that has gripped this nation.

A resident named Rosaline Foster told this press that “we don’t know anything about the agenda for change we are in total darkness, no electricity, and no good road here so we suffer for transport, and we even benefit less from the free health care because our health centre is not functioning well.”

She stated that government (past and present) has forsaken these communities saying they don’t know where their loyalty lies in the upcoming elections.

Another resident from the SS Camp under Regent area named Yamieda Cole says they need electricity in this area, as they had already received donations from a patriot of the community called SAJ Pratt, who donated a transformers, and it slaps in the face of the Ministry of Energy.

Also registering his voice to the cries of the community is Mohamed Kargbo a resident who said they need education and better agriculture investment as currently it becomes a brick-wall of challenge to the community.

In an attempt to strike a balance in the argument, this press contacted Deputy- Minister of Energy and Water Resources, Martin Bash Kamara who agreed that the cries of the communities are genuine, saying it formed part of the challenges they are facing as a government, but promised that they will do all they can to bring the desires of the people to their door step.

He also noted that the inadequacy of funds in the Ministry of Finance is the principal reason why some projects are unable to transform into realities. He went on to appeal to the people to exercise patience as they will soon carry out the electrification exercise of the community.”
