Save Mama Salone Foundation, a Non- Governmental Organization in collaboration with UNIPSIL has thrilled residents of Kailahun and Bo respectively in their week long peace sensitization campaign countrywide with the theme, Say No To Violence. The campaign officially kicked off in Kailahun on the October 12 followed by Bo on the 14th October and will end in Freetown on the 2rd November with a big concert that will involve all the registered political parties in the country.
Save Mama Salone Foundation was officially launched in May 20, 2012 at the Miatta Conference Hall, Youyi Building. The project was initiated by a young and developmental oriented Sierra Leonean, Dauda Kamara Junior.
After that launch, the Foundation has been engaging on robust non-violence campaigns as the country draws closer to the November 17 elections.
Various political representatives are members of the White Flag Committee and have been working round the clock to ensure peaceful elections.
Each political party conveys the message of their leaders to the people, Hon. Musa Tamba Sam Publicity Secretary of the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) told residents of Kailahun and Bo that their leader Julius Mada Bio say nobody should fight or use any abusive language for him.
“Today we are saying don’t fight for us, anybody that fights in the name of politician is not doing it for that politician but for himself,” he said.
He pointed out that one thing their supporters can do for Maada Bio is to wake up on November 17 and cast their vote but not to fight for him.
“You have to make sure that there is peace in Kailahun and Bo and say no to violence,” he added that all other political parties are Sierra Leoneans and they are their brothers and sisters.
Peoples Movement for Democratic Change (PMDC) said their leader Charles Francis Margai advised them to obey and respect the law and the law enforcement agency. He pointed out that they should avoid violence in any form and also stand on their right as long as they know what they are doing.
“Bo is known for peace; don’t encourage anyone that wants to disrupt the peace of the town and the district.”
Assistance National Publicity Sectary of the All Peoples Congress (APC) party Hon. Colson Turay said if the people of Kailahun and Bo wants development, free and fear elections let them say no to violence.
“Say no to violence is the message from President Ernest Bai Koroma,”
He called on all APC supporters to denounce violence as violence will not help the country to develop. He described the people of Kailahun as blessed people because they are the first to receive the White Flag and the peace tour.
“We are in Kailhun to plant the seeds of peace that will grow throughout the country; it indicates that the people of Kailahun are blessed.”
United Democratic Party (UDM) Silvanus Kaikai reflected on the ugly days in the country. He said violence should be thing of the past.
Organizing Secretary of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Christopher Bull said that respect for life which is the party’s slogan shows that their party is very peaceful. He went on to say that they as politicians realize that they are the perpetrators of violence, that was why they took upon themselves to say no to violence.
“Politics is not war but a game, don’t allow politicians to come around you and fool you with money and drugs. Behind that we are all brothers and sisters and Sierra Leone is bigger than any political party,”
Center for the Coordination of Youth Activities (CCYA) Golla Catter, Sierra Leone alone need you all for this is the right time.
The Chief Executive Officer of Save Mama Salone Foundation Dauda Kamara Jnr, said politics should not divide Sierra Leoneans but unite them.
He disclosed that their peace campaign in Kailahun and Bo is not a mistake pointing out that the campaign will end in Freetown where prominent artists will display their musical talents.
The entrance, he stressed will be free but emphasized that white flags and white T’ shirts will dominate the entire stadium as a sign of peace and non-violence elections. Political leaders and civil society groups, he added will make similar statements.
Dauda Kamara Jnr. pointed out that they will continue to use the musicians in the other towns to get the attention of the youths adding that the musicians will be supported by comedians and other entertainers.
He disclosed to his audience in Kailahun and Bo about the White Flag Committee which comprises of all registered political parties. Members of the Committee include Hon. Musa Tamba Sam of the opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) Hon. Coleson Turay of the All People Congress Party (APC), Christopher Bull of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) party, among others.
He stressed that each political party will send ten or more representatives to serve as peace ambassadors in each district. He said the Foundation will mount white flags in all the districts as signs of achieving peace and bringing political parties together.
“All Political Parties, community stakeholders, religious leaders and youth groups will make statements. We hope that the leaders will make it a point of duty to denounce violence and respect a non –violence election,” he said.
”We want to send out a clear message to the international community that Sierra Leone is safe and the country is ready to protect investors,” says Mr. Kamara Junior.
In both Kailahun and Bo local artists such as Momoh Ranka, Steep Q, Salone S Coba and Bobby team up to T. Town All Stars to thrill peace loving Sierra Leoneans. Fans joined the politicians to denounce violence in the November 17th elections.
