Bread for the Poor-Sierra Leone, a local humanitarian non-governmental organization working to eradicate hunger amongst women and children in Sierra Leone joins the world today in celebrating World Food Day 2012.
With a global theme that sits right on top of the world: “Agricultural cooperatives – key to feeding the world”, BREAD views the selection of this theme as timely in order to highlight the role of cooperatives in improving food security and contributing to the eradication of hunger and poverty, especially in a country like Sierra Leone.
Therefore, we join hands with the Government of Sierra Leone, and its partners, the World Food Programme, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), etc., in calling for the empowerment of cooperatives in the country.
This comes from the fact that the UN has earmarked that interest in cooperatives and rural organizations is important in our strive to sustainable agricultural development through to Cooperatives.
