Patriotic Sierra Leoneans (PSL) Press Release thumbnail

Patriotic Sierra Leoneans (PSL) organization will be hosting a debate at the Miatta Conference Center, Brookfields, Freetown for the candidates for President of Sierra Leone on Monday, November 5, 2012 starting at 3:00pm and ending not later than 6:00pm. All Presidential Candidates who meet the National Electoral Commission eligibility criteria and nomination were invited to participate in the debate. Furthermore, all Presidential Candidates who are on the ballot as of the filing deadline by National Electoral Commission (NEC) are being invited  and has consented to participate.

The goal of the Presidential debates is to afford the members of the public and citizens an opportunity to sharpen their views, in a focused debate format, of those candidates from among whom the next President will be selected. To fully and fairly achieve the educational purposes of the Presidential debate, Patriotic Sierra Leoneans PSL has developed nonpartisan, objective criteria upon which it will base its decisions regarding questions that will be ask to the candidates.  The purpose of the criteria is to identify to make sure that all questions will be coming directly from the voters.

A diverse section of the public will be invited for the debate. The first two hours of the debate, Sierra Leoneans will have the opportunity to ask questions to all Presidential Candidates through the moderators. The last hour of the debate, the format will change to Presidential candidates asking each other direct questions and they will have two (2) minutes to answer the questions.

The debate is scheduled to be taped and will appear on International Medias and will be carries live by our National Television Network (SLBC), and most of our country radio station. The debate will also be covered by all Sierra Leonean newspapers in and out of the country.

Sierra Leoneans may disagree on candidates, but many are fighting hard this year to know the accurate positions of candidates and to vote for the well-being of Sierra Leone. Patriotic Sierra Leoneans PSL organization has been very active in encouraging citizens registration during the bio-metric registration earlier this year and continues to provide voter educational activities and preaching peace and political tolerance. P-SL believes that we must always put our country first at all times.

Mohamed Kamarainba- President
Patriotic Sierra Leoneans P-SL
