A local businessman and father of three, Ibrahim Jalloh of 46 Regent Road Wilberforce, was found dead in his home Tuesday afternoon hanging from a rope. The Fullah man in his mid 40s and who owned a shop in front of his compound allegedly locked himself inside the shop tied a rope around his neck and climbed on a stool to hang himself. The man 10-years old son found the body when he came home from school, according to the compound caretaker.
Speaking to Sierra Express Media, Jalloh’s neighbor and close friend James Tulla said Jalloh lost his wife in childbirth 10 years ago and has never been the same. Tulla said he last saw Jalloh when he (Tulla) returned from work Tuesday morning in a cheerful mood. They joked for some time before Tulla went into his apartment to rest. It was not long after that Tulla was informed by his niece that Jalloh had hanged himself. Tulla also said Jalloh had been telling those close to him that he did not have much time to live again. Friends tried to comfort him and convince him that life could still go on despite all odds.
He said the Jalloh informed him on the day before his death that he had a case with another tenant in the compound and had been taken to the police, and complained about the stress in his life. The friend also revealed that the rope with which Jalloh hanged himself was part of a large quantity he brought a few months ago to hang laundry.
According to the caretaker of the compound, RSM Bassie Thallu, the late Jalloh paid his rent on Monday and demanded a receipt. Â Thallu told Jalloh to wait for the landlord to prepare the receipt. He said he saw the deceased yesterday morning but saw nothing wrong with him.
Other neighbors said that after Jalloh lost his wife, another younger woman was brought for him to marry but the marriage did not last because the new wife demanded too much from him, which ended with him sending her back to her parents in Guinea.
Jalloh’s body was removed by police from the Criminal Investigation Department of the Congo Cross Police Station to the Connaught Hospital Mortuary pending in investigation.
