Parties flex their muscle over vacant parliamentary seat in Constituency 33

Constituency 33, Bombali District is one of the largest constituencies, comprising Gbanti Kamaranka, Sanda Tendaren and parts of Sanda Loko chiefdoms with a total of 30 sections. The constituency also has 60 polling stations.

All parties have their men in place:

APC – Sulaiman Sesay, the current Board Chairman of SALPOST (Sierra Leone Postal Service)
SLPP – Lamah Bangura
PMDC – Mohamed Bangura, National Chairman PMDC

SLPP’s J.J. Saffa said “The Tongo By-Election was codenamed ‘operation anti-virus’, Lugbu, ‘operation hold tight’ and Sanda ‘operation surprise.’’  He went on to say “the APC will be surprised to learn that the people have realized their mistakes. The people in the three chiefdoms know that between 2002 and 2007, SLPP either rehabilitated or reconstructed schools, clinics and other community infrastructures for them. This is what will form the basis of their decision in this election. So APC are in for the biggest surprise in their history.”

The constituency became vacant when Hon. Eddie Turay was posted as High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, a move considered as a demotion after he was named in a land scandal.
