The FPU-North America hails the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, His Excellency, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma on the appointment of Justice Abdulai Timbo as the Fullah Tribal Head, Western Area, Sierra Leone

The long awaited decision on the leadership of the Western Area Fullah Tribal Head in Sierra Leone was finally made by His Excellency Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma. It was made in a surprise radio broadcast in late January, but the official crowning ceremony took place at the State House on Tuesday March, 2^nd  2010.

Most Fullah entrepreneurs and professionals were among the dignitaries that attended the ceremony. The President, Dr. Koroma acknowledged and granted the wishes of the majority of the Fullah electorate in the Western Area. The President demonstrated a true component of democracy in his action to the Fullah people.

The battle for this powerful seat started after the death of the Fullah Tribal Head, Late Alhaji Baba Ali, and (May his soul rest in peace). In the light of this, the deputy Tribal Head Alhaji Mohamed Bah, alias – (Texaco) stepped in to act as Fula Tribal Head.  During this time, he steadfastly oversees the administration of the affairs of the Fullah people and passionately contested to ascend to the throne. However, elders along with the young and educated Fullahs seriously deliberated on which direction to take regarding the next occupant of this golden seat. They decided on electing a younger, dynamic, and educated individual as their leader.

The Fullah Progressive Union in the United States of America under the dynamic leadership of the newly elected President Mr. Abubakarr Jalloh (A.B.J) wishes to thank His Excellency the President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, for demonstrating democracy at the tribal level. We are fully aware that he could have appointed any of the two contestants but used his judgment to let the will of the majority of the people prevail.

We congratulate the former Chief Justice Abdulai Timbo, on his appointment and swearing in as Fullah Tribal Head Western Area. We are appealing to him to initiate a constructive dialogue with Alhaji Mohamed Bah (Texaco) and his supporters in the interest of unity for us to continue to positively improve our beloved country Sierra Leone. We firmly believe in “FOTTAL EH POTTAL” as engraved in our hearts by the founding fathers of the FULLAH PROGRESSIVE UNION.
